Our prices, published up front

Silver Plate Canada buys silver plate by mail, local pickup or booked drop-off in Mississauga. We publish rates before you send anything, process each parcel on camera, and send an itemized receipt with every payment.

Silver plated flatware $10.50/lb · holloware $7.50/lb · knives $3.50/lb. Sterling, 900 and 800 silver, silver coins, gold and copper are priced live from the metal market.

Silver plate, gold plate, pewter, brass and copper-nickel are flat rates that stay steady from day to day. What you're paid depends on what your items weigh once we've sorted and tested them. Sterling and gold follow the metal market. If a rate ever changes, you're paid the rates posted on the day your parcel is processed.

Two kinds of price on this page, and it is worth knowing which is which.

Silverplate, gold plate, pewter, brass and copper-nickel are flat prices. They are posted here, they stay steady from day to day, and your receipt shows the rate you were paid.

Solid silver follows the metal market. Sterling, 900 and 800 silver are priced based off weight like everything else here, but the figure is worked out fresh every few minutes from the silver price and the Bank of Canada exchange rate, so it moves through the day. Yours is confirmed to you in writing when your parcel is weighed.

Silver at $73.49 an ounce, taken at 5:37 p.m.

Gold follows the metal market too, by the gram. Gold is priced by karat, worked out fresh every few minutes from the gold price and the same Bank of Canada exchange rate.

Gold at $5,746.95 an ounce, taken at 5:37 p.m.

Copper follows its market too, by the pound. The figure is updated through the day from the copper market price.

ItemWe pay (CAD)Notes
Silver plated flatware (forks, spoons, serving pieces)$10.50/lbper pound, flat
Silver plated holloware (teapots, trays, candlesticks, bowls)$7.50/lbQuadruple plate and Britannia metal (EPBM) holloware counts as holloware. Britannia STANDARD silver is a different thing entirely and is quoted in writing.
Silver plated knives (non-magnetic handle)$3.50/lbMost of a knife's weight is its blade and filled handle, which is why knives have their own rate.
Gold plated (any piece, magnetic or not)$3.00/lbGold plate is worth less than silver plate. The coating on both is very thin, and the metal under gold plate is mostly cheaper, often magnetic, and worth far less than the copper, tin and other metals under silver plate. We test every piece: with no gold on it, a piece is paid by its metal. Gold plated zinc (pot metal) has no value.
Sterling silver and 925$585.13/lbPriced off the metal market and updated through the day, so this figure moves. Yours is confirmed in writing when your parcel is weighed, before anything is processed.
900 silver$566.99/lbSame rule as sterling, at the lower purity.
800 silver$503.48/lbEuropean and Scandinavian solid silver. Routinely thrown out as plate because the number is lower than 925.
Pewter (marked pewter)$10.00/lbGenuine pewter is almost always marked, unless very old.
Brass and bronze$2.50/lbper pound, flat
Copper-nickel$2.50/lbper pound, flat
Copper$6.32/lbSolid copper: pots, pans, kettles, trays and coal scuttles. Follows the copper market, updated through the day. Handles and fittings of another metal are paid at their own price.
Silver plated and costume jewelleryBy metalPaid by the metal it is made of, which we find when we test each piece: brass and bronze, copper-nickel or copper, at their prices above. Zinc (pot metal) and steel jewellery has no value. Gold plated has its own price above, and gold filled in the gold table below.
Iron, steel, aluminium and zinc (pot metal)No valueRun a magnet over everything before you pack: anything it grabs firmly is iron or steel, unless it is gold plated. Some stainless steel is not magnetic, aluminium is light and grey, and zinc (pot metal) is the dull grey metal under many cheap castings, like figurines and lamp parts. None of them earns anything. Send them anyway if they are already in the box and we recycle them for you at no charge; just do not pay to ship a box of them on their own.

Whatever the size of your payment, the only things taken off it are the shipping label or pickup cost you chose, and both show on your receipt. Drop-offs have no fees.

Silver Plate Canada and WeBuySilverPlate.ca are separate, unrelated businesses. We post a live sterling and 925 rate per pound on this page; there is no need to call for sterling pricing.

More on each of these: silver plate, sterling flatware, gold jewellery, gold plated and whole estate boxes.

Coins are weighed like everything else, so what you are paid is the weight. The face value figure is a guide for coins you have counted rather than weighed. We pay metal value only, never collector value, so if you think a coin is worth more to a collector, sell it elsewhere before you ship.

Worth knowing before you pack
ItemHow it is handled
Weighted sterling (cement-filled candlesticks and the like)Priced on recoverable silver only; the deduction shows on your itemized receipt, never sprung on you.
Signed and branded sterling piecesPaid at the published sterling rate, for their silver. We pay metal value only, so if you think a piece is worth more whole, sell it elsewhere before you ship.

Anything not on these lists is quoted to you in writing instead, and nothing in it is processed until you approve. We pay metal value only: everything we buy is melted or shredded for recycling.
