Gold plated, at a published price

Many buyers will not pay anything for gold plated pieces. We pay a flat $3.00/lb, priced based off weight, for jewellery, flatware and other gold plated pieces, magnetic or not.

Why it pays less than silver plate

Gold plate is worth less than silver plate. The coating on both is very thin, and the metal under gold plate is mostly cheaper, often magnetic, and worth far less than the copper, tin and other metals under silver plate.

What counts as gold plated

  • GP or GEP: gold plated or gold electroplate.
  • HGE: heavy gold electroplate.
  • No mark at all: send it anyway. We test every piece.

Where plating could hide what is underneath, we may make a scratch, which is industry standard to ensure accurate testing. A gold coloured piece with no gold on it is paid by the metal it is made of, and gold plated zinc (pot metal) has no value. Solid gold and gold filled have their own prices on the what we pay page.

How it is paid

  1. Request a shipping label, or simply put it in the same box as everything else.
  2. When your parcel arrives, it is tested and weighed on camera.
  3. Each piece is itemized on your receipt: weight, rate, dollars.
  4. Payment goes out by Interac e-Transfer.
