Privacy policy

The short version: we collect only what your label, your payment and our anti-money-laundering program require, we never sell or share your information, and you can ask us at any time what we hold about you. The longer version is below, in plain language. Version 3.5, November 2026.

Who we are

Silver Plate Canada is a trading name of Electronic Distributors International Inc., Mississauga, Ontario ("we", "us"). This policy covers the silverplatecanada.ca website and our mail-in buying service. We follow Canada's federal privacy law for businesses, PIPEDA (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

What we collect, and why

  • Label request: your name, mailing address, postal code, box sizes and weights, your email address and your phone number. We use these to prepare your shipping label, send it to you and reach you about your parcel. Apart from a note of how you found this site (see below), nothing else is collected at this step.
  • Address suggestions: while you type a street address on our forms, what you have typed so far is sent to Google's mapping service so it can suggest matching addresses. Google gets the address text only, never your name or contact details.
  • Chat helper: questions you ask the chat helper are answered by AI and kept so we can improve our answers. Please don't share sensitive details in the chat.
  • Pickup request: your name, pickup address, phone, email, roughly how much you have and photos of it, so we can arrange the pickup. The photos reach our team by email and are not stored on this website. To work out the drive and the pickup fee, the address you type is sent to Google's mapping service. Google gets the address only, never your name or contact details.
  • Drop-off booking: your name, your phone number and, if you give it, your email address, so we can hold your time and reach you if anything changes.
  • Your parcel: the contents you send, which we photograph and record on video as described on the security page. This protects your items and documents our handling.
  • Your receipt and payment: the email or phone you gave us, plus the details needed to send an Interac e-Transfer.
  • Photo ID: a photo of the front of your driver's licence or other government-issued photo ID, which you email to us, or the ID itself if you bring your items in. We ask every seller for it as part of our anti-money-laundering (FINTRAC) compliance program, and it helps keep stolen goods out. When you email it, our system reads it automatically, using an AI service, to fill in your customer record, and a team member checks anything it cannot read or that does not match your order. The AI service receives only the picture, never your email's text. If a transaction raises a red flag, the law may require further identity steps and prescribed records; we tell you before you are asked for anything more.
  • Purchase register: for every purchase we record the item descriptions, photos, weights, prices and dates, and the seller's identity. This register is a fraud and stolen-goods control.

What we never do

  • We never sell, rent or share your information with marketers. Full stop.
  • We never add you to a newsletter you did not ask for. Label requesters get their label, their receipt and any quote they asked for, nothing else.
  • We never handle your card numbers or banking passwords. e-Transfers do not require them.
  • Google Ads stores a cookie that links your visit to the ad you clicked. This website shows no third-party ads.

How we measure this website

We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use this site: which pages are read, where visitors stop, and which buttons do not work as they should. Clarity records how a page is scrolled, tapped and clicked, so we can see where the site is confusing.

Anything you type into our forms is hidden from these recordings. Your name, address, email address, phone number and payment details are masked in your browser and never reach Google or Microsoft through these tools. The page that confirms your label request is never recorded, and your postal code and order number are removed from its web address before anything is sent to Google.

These tools use cookies and store their data with Google and Microsoft, including on servers in the United States. Google Analytics keeps it for up to 14 months. Clarity keeps recordings for 30 days, and a small sample for up to 9 months. When a visitor who can be measured sends a photo enquiry that reaches our inbox, requests a shipping label or books a drop-off, we tell Google Ads that the lead happened so we can see whether our ads work. We do not send Google your name, email, message or photographs. We do not sell this information and we do not use it to follow up with individual visitors.

How you found us: for up to 13 months your browser keeps a note of the website, ad, listing or email link that brought you here (including Google's ad click code), the page you arrived on, and when. It is sent with a label request, booking, pickup request or photos, and is never given to Google Analytics or Clarity.

If you came from one of our Google ads and sell to us, we tell Google Ads that click code and when we paid you. Nothing else: not your name, contact details, what you sold or what we paid.

These tools and the note do not run if your internet connection places you in Quebec or outside Canada and the United States, if you are in the United States and your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or if you press "Stop measuring me" below. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals.

We also keep simple counts on our own server, such as how many times a page was opened or a price was checked. These counts hold no cookies and nothing that identifies you. When you check a pickup price, we count only the first three characters of the postal code.

The links in emails we send to businesses can end in a short code that belongs to that email. When such a link is opened, we count the code and the page it opened, so we can tell which businesses found our email useful, and the code is then removed from the web address. We do not count it if you are in the United States and your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or if you have pressed "Stop measuring me" above.

Who can see it

Only the people who need it to do the work: the staff who prepare labels, process parcels and send payments. Legal exceptions exist, and we name them: police, on a lawful request, consistent with our stolen-property controls; and FINTRAC, where the PCMLTFA requires reporting.

How long we keep it

Label-request and pickup-request details are kept even if you never sell to us, so a parcel that arrives later can still be matched to its request; you can ask us to delete them at any time (see below). Photo ID is kept on file with your customer record, whether or not you sell to us, so a returning seller is not asked for it again. You can ask us to delete yours once anti-money-laundering law no longer requires us to keep it, which is 5 years after your last sale. Purchase records, itemized receipts and processing video are kept at least 2 years (video) and as long as tax and anti-money-laundering laws require (records, typically 5 to 7 years).

Your choices and questions

You can ask what we hold about you, correct it, or ask us to delete what the law does not require us to keep. Email [email protected], call (416) 799-7528, or write to the privacy contact at Electronic Distributors International Inc., 2687 Slough St, Mississauga, ON L4T 1G2. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

If this policy changes, the version number at the top changes, and the current version is always published on this page.
